Description
I am calling this highly carved Victorian sideboard Gothic revival, but it also has a very Jacobean influence to the design. The details are incredible and the quality is amazing, this will have been a very expensive item of furniture when it was made.
It is in excellent condition, and as you might expect given it’s size and the fact that it is constructed of solid oak, very heavy. It has been fully restored at our workshop and everything functions as it should.
I decided to paint this in a deep blue/black colour, not dissimilar to Farrow & Ball’s Railings, to compliment but not over accentuate the carved details. It was finished with neutral wax to protect the finish – no mean feat when there is this level of carving to cover!
This is an extraordinary piece, but I believe it could make a fantastic statement in a more contemporary home, as well as a period property. If you are looking for something unique, then this could be the answer!
