A ‘Golden Key’ mid century chest drawers made by Palatial Furniture, which manufactured (mostly) bedroom furniture from the 1950s to the 80s , this probably dates from the 60s or 70s. Each drawer is stamped with the Golden key logo.
Sadly this had been plastered with white gloss paint and while we took every care removing it, it is obviously not in original condition. We decided to give it a sympathetic refurbishment, painting one of the drawers, and decorating the rest with geometric stencils using Annie Sloan chalk paint in Paloma, which she describes as a ‘warm grey taupe’. Several coats of neutral wax have been applied to protect the finish. The original handles had been replaced by boring pine knobs, so we added new knobs featuring ammonite fossils and unusual arrow handles instead.
Another lengthy labour of love, taking a chest that was (quite frankly) fit for the bin, and turning it into something unique that we hope would compliment any interior.
