Beautiful early 20th century bureau bookcase which is probably about 100 years old, so now qualifies as an antique. In keeping with its’s age, it has required a fair bit of work to bring it back to it’s current condition. It is now all in good working order, the drawers run smoothly, as do the supports for the writing slope (which must be pulled out manually, as this predates the automatic mechanisms). However we are not miracle workers, so there are still signs that this piece has some age to it – which we think adds to it’s appeal.
It has been painted in black emulsion and given several coats of dark oak Briwax for protection. The back of the bookcase has been papered and varnished, and the writing slope has been stencilled. The original hardware has been refurbished in antique bronze, but sadly the original keys have been lost.
Dimensions: Height (overall) 200cm, height of base 102cm, width 90cm (width of top including moulding 91cm), maximum depth 41cm.
