A ten drawer sideboard in Indian hardwood that is probably about 20 years old and consequently in very good condition. It is ridiculously heavy and will require two able bodied people to deliver it, who have preferably eaten their Weetabix that morning! The good news is it’s a lot more manageable with the drawers out…
For some reason it reminded me of a vintage apothecary cabinet, so I have painted the top in a zinc effect and finished with several coats of varnish. The drawers have been given a multi layered paint treatment and the rest was painted in layers of brown and grey. Some of the drawers have been stencilled with roman numerals and the whole piece was finished with a dark liquid wax. Finally we added some painted and dark waxed wooden knobs.
Since we are unlikely to come across another chest/sideboard of this design, and if we did I would almost certainly do something entirely different with it, I think I can safely say this is a one of a kind statement piece of furniture.
